Tennis the fun way!!!

It all started one day my nephew asked me to help him build a potato gun for his school project that had to do with trajectory and distance. First I didn’t have a clue what I was doing even though I like to think I do most of the time. So I failed miserably by welding a soda can onto a muffler pipe, hey it seemed like a good idea at the time!!!
Well there was not enough room for the gases to expand so the trajectory and velocity was very low. So, I got a little help from diypotatocannons.com. They were great! They even offered to ship me a full potato cannon kit. I just got the plans.
After building the potato cannon my nephew and I learned so much about the concept that we ended up building a tennis ball launcher in the same fashion. Since the tennis ball was so much lighter the velocity increased considerably and the trajectory was shortened as well. This won my nephew first place in his class. The teacher never specified he had to use a potato he won hands down. However, the potato cannon we built with the diypotatocannon.com plans outperformed by almost double anyone elses in the class. My nephew and I had so much fun with this project we made it a regular hobby. Pumpkin launching is next after that we don’t know what to do but I’m sure we will figure out something!!! Maybe we will start building high powered catapults.
